The Adventures of Nick Slacker, Biker Private Eye (02/04) Date/Time: early Monday morning By Knightie Brooksie All Knighties used with permission __________________________________ [Flashback to the UF Party] SET SCENE: Outside of the UF Hive. Slacker and his groupies are clustered around the black and chrome Triumph, which is parked directly in front of the building. Slacker is leaning against its seat, looking slackerly. It appears that he is merely loitering, but we can see that he is in reality watching all the party guests as they leave the party. VOICEOVER: (Slacker) The Hive. Home of the Unnamed Faction. An impressive place with an even more impressive capacity for parties and odd events. I was there to cruise the A-list partygoers, to invade their secretive little world. I knew I could pick up some klews about the disappearance of Knight-man. But, something felt wrong in those halls of the unnamed. I had dressed carefully that evening, in clothing appropriate for a Biker Private Eye. But when I arrived at the shindig, everyone turned to stare at me. Some women even fainted. Then some runaway dough broke a big hole in the kitchen and let in some tunnel rats. And the birthday girl was acting angsty. Had she caught the angst from the Knight-man? Did she know where he was? And then there is Knightie Sandra. The Knightie boss sent her away on a mission. A mission to uncover the secret of all the strange events happening in Toronto. And then he disappeared! Perhaps she has a klew as to where he is? [Slacker straightens up from leaning on the bike and saunters over to Sandra.] SLACKER: [blink blink] Sandra, where have you been? The Knighties and I have missed you. [smiles] << "Missed me?" Sandra countered, "You only switched into Nick's body after I got back. How could you have possibly missed me?" Sandra raised an eyebrow and waited for his answer. >> VOICEOVER: (Slacker) I could see that Sandra Knightie wasn't going to be a pushover and give up her secrets that easily. I was going to have to use more subtle tactics. But I didn't have time. I had a date with a bonnie lass, that couldn't wait. SLACKER: My apologies, querida, [inclines his head in a mock bow], I was just trying to include you in the conversation, such as it is. [Slacker's eyes sweep the group of still drooling Knighties. He moves to directly in front of Sandra, and puts his hands on her shoulders. He looks down at her.] << Sandra shudders, but not from the coolness of his touch. Her heart has suddenly throbbed into action as she sees her crusader's chest just inches away from her face. The faint end of a long scar curls around his ribs. She wants to touch it. Slacker cups her chin and raises her face so she looks into his eyes. >> SLACKER: We will continue this conversation at a later time? [blink blink] OK, Sandra? << Sandra can only nod. >> [Slacker plants a kiss on her forehead, his lips lingering there for a moment. Walking away from Sandra on his way back to the Triumph, he passes a spaced-out Min. Slacker stops in front of her, waving his hand in front of her eyes. No response. He holds her face in his hands and looks into her eyes. A small smile forms on Min's face. Slacker looks at the nearest Knightie.] SLACKER: Hey, what's up with Min? Why's she staring into space like that? << "She's been like this ever since you two arrived at the party." Gemsong replied trying hard to keep her eyes on Vachon-in-Nick's face. "We," she indicated the Knighties around her, "have a theory that she is in permanent flashback mode. I guess you two had a good time earlier? >> SLACKER: [grins] I bought her her very own set of leathers and then we went sightseeing. She wanted to see the Church of the Vaqueras and its collection of Elvis lawn ornaments. It was actually quite impressive. And we saw several ladies walking a llama nearby. Then we rode *very fast* on the QEW. [Min had not shown any other signs of life. Slacker looks at her again and shrugs as if to say "what can I do." Then he turns to address the assembled group.] SLACKER: Señoritas, buenos nôches. I had a fun time with all of you tonight, but a vampire's life is not his own, and there are places that I must be. [blink blink] Perhaps when you return to Gateway Lane, Kat and the Kiwi Knightie will have some news. And one more thing, don't do anything I wouldn't do! [Slacker straddles his motorbike dramatically, flinging the black leather duster in an arc over the leather seat. The white poet's shirt contrasts favorably against his black leather jeans, and complements his pale complexion.] VOICEOVER: (Slacker) It was time to blow this party. All the fun was leaving, and going elsewhere, and I couldn't let these Knighties follow it into the dark corners of the city. They were too *nice*. But Nick Slacker, Biker Private Eye, could not afford not to follow. The answer was still out there and I had to find it. Before Knight-man and the rest of us ran out of time. [Slacker kick starts the bike and it roars to life. He grins and shakes an errant lock of hair out of his eyes. He winks at his groupies and lets out the clutch to roll out of the driveway and then roars off into the knight.] END SCENE [End Flashback]
