The Path Of Least Resistance By Knightie Katrinka Time: Thursday sometime in the early morning Katrinka had a problem. She didn't want to go home. Course the house she had moved into a few months before the start of the war, was much better then that house she had living in before the last war. For instance, the back door didn't fall in during a strong wind. The house that she lived in now had good plumbing, electricity that worked in the entire house, and central air. The old house had none of that. Kat didn't want to go home. Perhaps it was because she could visualize the mess that her husband left it in. The fact that he didn't seem to mind the fact that the dogs turned over the trash can, and drug the trash all over the kitchen floor. The fact that he believed that dishes didn't have to be washed, clothes cleaned or picked up off the floor. To put it mildly, the Knightie lived with a bunch of slobs. She did NOT look forward to having to spend the entire three weeks before school begun cleaning up her house. "Perhaps you should get a maid." Tracey suggested. "Can't afford it. I'm a poor old teacher, with a out of work husband." "He still hasn't found a job?" "Nope. He's probably spent my absence watching TV, in the bedroom with the door closed." "What about your son?" "My nephew is helping take care of him." "Perhaps he cleaned up the house." "A sixteen year old boy cleaning?" "Yeah, you're right." "If I could remember most of the war it probably would be worth It." she told herself. "Are you still having memory problems?" Tracey asked, as she shoved a plate of chocolate at the Knightie leader. "There's whole days I still can't remember." Katrinka grabbed a dark chocolate chunk cookie. "It's probably best you don't remember." "Isn't that my choice?" "You never met the evil, horrid Ms'Kaye." Tracey shivered at the thought. Nick walked past them to the refrigerator. He opened the door and got out a bottle of blood. "What's up girls?" "Kat's feeling sorry for herself again." "Why? What's wrong?" Nick put the bottle up, and went to the table. "It's nothing," Katrinka moped. Nick smiled. "You usually don't pout unless something's wrong." "Well, school starts in three weeks, my house is a pit, and I can't remember half of the war." She admitted. "If I read one more piece of bad fan fiction, I'll be ill." "Perhaps that won't happen." "You know what's going to happen the first day of school? Little Kirk-McCoy-Riker Scientist-Nova will bring me his notebook of Sailor Digipokegundum stories." Kat cringed at the thought. "Those stories are horrid!" "Kat! What's the name of your student's mother?" Tracey asked, her eyes lighting up. "Martina-Suzanne." Katrinka shrugged. "She's Canadian." "Oh my gosh! She's M. Sue Scientist!" "Who is M. Sue Scientist?" Nick asked. "One of the most horrid fan fiction writers around!" Tracey clapped her hands in joy. "And Kat's student's mom!" "I don't believe this!" Kat groaned. "I had to suffer through fan fiction by someone I *know*. Oh I'm going to send her a set of hot chocolate chip cookies, without a return address." "Kat, that wouldn't be nice." Nick reminded her. "I'm tired of being nice." A tear rolled down her cheek. "I'm tired of not being able to remember anything." "First things first." Nick reached out and wiped the tear from the Knighties cheek. "I've called a maid service, and your house will be cleaned by the time you get home." "How did you know about that?" "I over heard you talking to your husband this morning." Nick smiled again. "About your student, the best revenge is to turn him into a great writer. Who knows, he might grow up to be a famous author." Kat smiled slyly. "Sounds like a plan to me." "About the memory problem. Cherish what you have, and try not to worry about what you lost." The smile grew wider. "I wish I could run far away, to someplace like the Falklands." She sighed. "You have to live life. You can't run away from it." Nick hugged her and got up. "You have to admit, you have a good life." "I suppose so." Katrinka admitted. "Have some chocolate, get some rest. We'll talk later." Nick kissed her gently on the cheek and went upstairs.
