"Knightie Leader Reveals Mush for Brains!" By Knightie Katrinka Time: sometime Tuesday morning Place: the Loft Katrinka had a problem. Her brain had gone to mush. She couldn't, for the life of her, think of anything to do! Her dilemma was far worse then the mush brain she felt right before the state came in and audited her Special Education records. And far more different then the mushiness she got when little Jimmy Ray Bob stole her grade book. She hadn't slept for who knows how long. Every time the Knightie Leader closed her eyes, she saw teenage superheroes sweeping Nick Knight away from Toronto. And seven year old girls taking over the Enterprise, saving the Earth from a mass invasion by the Borg, Daleks, Klingons, Cybermen, Ice Warriors and Ming the Merciless. Afterwhich the grateful President of the Galaxy, Lacroix, not only gives said seven year old girl her own space ship, but he also crosses her over. Katrinka looked at the heap of fanzines that littered the table. She got up from the table and began to look around. "What can I do to keep my brain from frying?" *Dishes, I'll do dishes.* She began to work on the huge pile of dishes that where piled around Nicks' sink. "Pour water, wash dishes, rinse dishes." She repeated to herself. "Keep your mind off of everything else, concentrate only on the dishes." A flashback hit the Knightie leader. A flashback so strong and large that she dropped the dish she was rinsing. The dish broke on the floor. Then, just as suddenly the flashback passed. Katrinka stepped over the dish, and kept washing. ********************** Thirty minutes later, Brooksie came into the kitchen. She couldn't help but notice the leader standing amongst the rubble that used to be dishes. "Kat!" Brooksie said. "Yeah?" Her eyes had that unmistakable flashback look in her eyes. Brooksie pulled Katrinka away from the sink. "Step away from the sink now. You have that fanzines look in your eyes. You need to play with Ginger; or make dinner early then put on a record and relax." "I've got work to do, posts to write, I'm the Knightie leader," intoned Kat. "But I can't think of anything to write. My brain has turned to mush. It's useless, hopeless, we're doomed. The Knighties are doomed to not be able to find the s-s-solution to Nick's problems. And he'll be g-g-gone to us. We'll lose him f-f-f-forever." Kat sat down and sobbed. "You're thinking too hard." Brooksie said gently, and gave her a hug. "Inspiration comes when your brain is happy. You have been going with very little sleep over the past week or so. I think we have some fresh bodies here who can pick up the slack." "Brooksie!" Katrinka wailed. "You're going to bed, girlfriend! I will not tolerate any arguing." "Bad fanfic!" The woman cried. "I keep seeing Melly-Ann taking over the Enterprise." "If you sleep it will stop," Brooksie lead Katrinka to a nice quiet corner of the Loft. "You need sleep." "No! When I sleep, it gets worse. My mind comes up with even worse fan fiction." "If bad fan fiction is making you this way, then good fan fiction should make you feel better." The leader-in-training theorized. Katrinka lay on the cot. "There is no good fan fiction. It's all bad." Brooksie took a CD player and a CD out of her backpack. She inserted the CD into the player and clicked the top closed. Katrinka watched glassy- eyed as her factionmate put the head phones over Kat's ears. "Here. Listen. *This* is good fan fiction." "How can I listen to fan fiction?" puzzled Kat. "It's an audiobook recording, silly. You really do have mush for brains today, don't you. It was made for charity. Every story on this CD has won a lot of awards." "But how can I listen to it?" Brooksie raised one eyebrow at Kat's extravagant display of brain mushiness. "You have to close your eyes first, then listen!" Brooksie pressed "play". Katrinka's eyes flicker shut and Brooksie smiled. Perhaps the over- wrought Knightie leader she would feel better after a few hours rest.
