FoD: The War at Home 1/1 author: Cindy Brewer time: Thursday July 19th 8:00 a.m. place: The moose Lodge Cindy glanced up at the knock on her bedroom door. "It's open."The FoD leader called as she laid the cordless phone on the bed. Kathy and Senara poked their heads in. "You ready?" Cindy nodded looking over at her blue suitcase leaning against the closet door. She had packed the night before after they had closed the Deli for the last time. "Yeah."Cindy replied motioning them in. "How's everybody else doing?" "Spifff's doing a final check of the Deli before coming by to pick us up for the airport."Kathy reported as she sat down on the corner of the bed."Everybody's packed." "What time's your flight?"Senara inquired as she stifled a yawn. Between the war in general, and the three parties she was exhausted. Cindy absently picked up the phone and rolled it between her hands. "I just called and changed my flight." "How come?"Kathy asked. Cindy grinned. "I decided to go home by way of Disney World (tm). You guys are welcome to join me for some fun in the sun." "Hand the phone over."Senara replied with a smile as Cindy handed her the cordless. "What the hell."Kathy acknowledged. "What's the point of credit if you can't burn it once in awhile." ******** By eight thirty the FoD's were gathered in the living room their suitcases in various spots. Cindy cleared her throat gaining everybody's attention."I just wanted to thank you guys for a great job. Schanke, the Deli and the Mansion are all back to normal. Or what passes for normal in war time." A honk from the Cruiser signaled Spifff's arrival which cut off any reply anybody was going to make. Everyone stood and hugged. Several turned and took one last look at the Moose Lodge before heading outside. Cindy was the last to leave. She pulled out the handle of her suitcase and tilted it back so she could pull it. Cindy reached over and flipped off the light switch. She looked at the darkened Moose Lodge for a long moment. For better or worse another War was over with. It was always sad to leave old friends and new ones. A second honk from the Cruiser propelled Cindy into action. She pulled her suitcase out the front door and onto the sidewalk. Cindy closed the door tightly and locked it before she piled into the car with the others. endrsonal.mail.yahoo.com/
